LAURA ISAZA

ABOUT THE ARTIST
BIO
Artist Laura Isaza is a multidisciplinary young artist and designer.
Laura was born and raised in Medellín, Colombia. A place where all types of skin tones mix, which greatly influences her portraits. As a teenager, she studied plastic art at the Academy Bellas Artes. A degree that she supplemented with several years of work as a graphic designer and a bachelor's degree in product design engineering. Laura moved to Munich (Germany) in her early twenties to continue her design career at one of the top automotive companies in the country. This gave her the opportunity to travel and realize projects around the globe.
Since then she has lived in major hubs such as Los Angeles, Shanghai, Bali, San Francisco, Kuala Lumpur and others. In her late twenties, she was forced to spend several months in bed due to health issues that required three major surgeries. This challenging situation made her question her life priorities and explore hobbies that would distract her from her pain.
After becoming seriously ill, she rediscovered her passion for art, a passion that has contributed to her healing process and which she now pursues professionally. The experiences she has gained through working in the design world for several years, together with the cultural experiences she has gathered from so many different cultures, gave her a good basis to develop a successful career in the art world.
She is an aspiring young artist and her work is sold to private collectors around the world and exhibited in Italy and Germany.
ARTIST Statement
Control and chaos, dark and light, big and small, soft and rough, fragile and strong. She is fascinated by contrasting opposites, which she uses through the choice of colors and techniques. Her works are deeply emotional and are inspired by her own experiences.
She portrays female problems, fears, but also her dreams and challenges old social ideas. Her artworks are a bold statement against prejudice. By emphasizing cultural diversity, race and age, one could say that her work celebrates women and their connections to their own body and personality.
Her first female characters portray sensuality and empowerment, provocative through their facial expressions and liberation from standards of beauty and femininity. She plays with the absence of hair, makeup and jewelry to empower women to be comfortable in their own skin, prompting dialogue and reflection on what lies beneath the facade, whether it's strength and power or loneliness and fragility.Recently is interested in minimalism. In her last works she manages to express strong emotions and movements using only the necessary lines. Her three-dimensional tactile works exude dynamic elegance and harmony with white brushstrokes.
